Voice’s Café of the Month is Kettle Café, which is situated in the former Starbucks within the Westgate Buildings in Newport City Centre.

It is the brainchild of Lewis Sharp, who has always dreamed of running his own business, and on Wednesday, December 19, he finally got to realise his dream when he officially opened the doors to Kettle Café.

“I felt that there was a gap in the market for the type of venue that I wanted to open,” Lewis told Voice.

“By that I mean I wanted to create a space that was calming and relaxing for all, but also catered for families, especially parents with young children, as we have a designated parent and baby area with children’s tables and chairs, full of toys, puzzles and books to keep the little ones entertained.

“I’m a coffee lover and love all aspects café culture. There’s nothing better than sitting down and chatting with friends with a freshly made hot cup of java!

“Our premium Arabica coffee beans are freshly ground on site, offering a delightful balance of boldness and luxury, with a mild hint of Indonesian Robusta to the taste.”

As well as offering great-tasting coffee at a very affordable price, on the menu you’ll also find a selection of pizzas, pies, wraps, toasties, panini’s, soft rolls, ciabattas and sandwiches, as well as a fantastic selection of cakes, such as muffins, brownies, Welsh cakes and bara brith.

Vegans and vegetarians are catered for too, and also people with special dietary requirements, offering a variety of milk and alternatives for beverages, such as soya, coconut, whole, semiskimmed and skimmed to name but a few.

The café is open seven days a week from 7.30am until 6pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am until 4pm on Sunday and offers a great selection of breakfast items and meal deals, such as a toasted teacake and coffee for £4.25, and an all-day meal deal of sandwich, crisps and hot drink for £5.50.

There's plenty on the menu for children, with child-friendly versions of adult drinks, such as a baby-chino and hot chocolate, as well as a great meal deal offering too, where they can get a plain ham or cheese sandwich, fruit or crisps with a fruit shoot for only £3.50.

“Our menus are constantly evolving too, and we love to hear our customers opinions and feedback, as we add new lines and options for people to try, such as our soups and jacket potatoes.

“The support and feedback since opening has been fantastic, and we’d love for you to pop in and see us very soon, we offer a very warm welcome to everyone who graces our doors.”
