Voice’s Restaurant of the Month is Butterflies Bar and Kitchen, rated as the number one restaurant to visit in Blaenavon on Trip Advisor – well-known for its excellent choice of steaks and options from the grill. Voice caught up with owner Dayne Watkins to find out what’s new on the menu for spring. Here’s what he had to say:

How is 2019 treating you so far?

January and February were extremely busy months for us, which was pleasantly surprising – with a fantastic Valentine’s weekend, plus, due to the success over the Christmas period, we are already fully booked for Christmas Day this year and spaces are already beginning to fill up for festive parties too.

Our restaurant had a makeover last autumn to create more space for customers. Our bar offering is also going through some changes with new draught products and we now have over 30 artisan gins to choose from.

What’s new on the menu for spring?

We’ve introduced a new concept! The first Sunday evening of every month we are hosting a “small plates” evening - tapas style dishes of food to share with friends and family with a different theme each month. Our Greek night earlier this month sold out and we received excellent reviews.

We’re looking forward to preparing the garden for spring where we will be growing more of our own produce than ever before – using homegrown fruits and vegetables for our salads, micro herbs, and tomatoes.

Have you expanded your Vegan and Vegetarian options due to an increase in demand?

We always have vegan and veggie options, and always ensure we have new vegan options on the specials board every month.

Are you still doing afternoon teas on Saturday?

We still offer afternoon teas, but only for larger parties and special occasions, such as baby showers, birthdays, anniversaries and hen parties.

Do you still have to pre-book for Sunday lunch?

Sundays as ever are extremely popular and are filling up two weeks in advance - alongside our kitchen roasts we have expanded our Sunday lunch menu to offer one of our award-winning steaks, a vegan option and other delicious choices meaning there are now 8 different options to choose from on a Sunday.

Finally, are you fully booked for Mother’s Day?

Our first Mother’s Day sifting is already fully booked, but there are still spaces available for our second sitting – where we’re offering a 3-course lunch for £22.95.

So, if you’re looking to try a new highly-sought after dining-destination this March, why not head out to Butterflies Bar and Kitchen in Blaenavon, you’ll be glad that you did!
