Armed police swooped on a North East neighbourhood overnight with reports that a person had been taken to hospital following an incident.

Officers with weapons were pictured in the Hardwick area, of Stockton, in the early hours this morning (Sunday, May 5). 

Multiple police vehicles were on the scene with officers surrounding Lutyens Square.

A cordon was also in place at nearby Faraday Drive and Chadwick Walk.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a private address in Stockton at 9.45pm on 4 May.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew, a specialist paramedic and the Medicar, and transported one patient to hospital for further treatment."The Northern Echo: Armed police in the Hardwick, Stockton

Police have confirmed a man was taken to hospital after a stabbing.
