MORE than 120,000 people will descend on Glasgow tomorrow for two major events - creating a major headache for the city's police and transport network.

Hampden hosts rockers U2 while across town at Parkhead Celtic take on Arsenal in a Champions League "Battle of Britain" qualifier.

Rail and bus operators have been forced to put on extra services to meet the massive demand and Strathclyde Police are warning supporters and fans to leave plenty of time to get to their event.

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport will run 20 free shuttle buses to take music fans to and from the U2 gig.

They will operate from Buchanan Bus Station to Hampden from around 5pm and from Queen's Drive back into the city centre after the concert.

SPT chairman Alistair Watson said: "We're in for a very busy night on Tuesday and it's vital Glasgow's transport runs as efficiently as possible."

Assistant Chief Constable Fiona Taylor from Strathclyde Police Operational Support Division, who is in charge of policing both events, said: "I would urge spectators to use public transport."

Police are reminding fans that while Celtic Park is only two miles from the city centre there are a number of roadworks which could cause delays.

Springfield Road is closed to traffic between London Rd and Bogside Street. Pedestrian access remains available, on temporary footpaths.

Roadworks are also in place on the M74 at the Fullarton Interchange (narrow lanes) and on the M8 near to Arkleston Bridge, Paisley.
