MOUNTAIN rescuers have praised a group of teenagers who came to the aid of an injured mountain biker on Saturday.
The 46-year-old man, from Bettws, suffered multiple injuries in a fall on Sugar Loaf Mountain, near Abergavenny, on Saturday afternoon.
A group of teenage Duke of Edinburgh Award students, from Cirencester, came across the injured cyclist and called 999.
They stayed with him, set up a shelter and kept him warm while they waited for help to arrive.

Abergavenny-based Longtown Mountain Rescue Team was called in by Welsh Ambulance Service. Team members climbed the mountain from both sides to reach the casualty.
A team doctor treated the man at the scene and he was then carried by stretcher off the mountain to a waiting ambulance.
Luke Lewis, team leader of Longtown MRT, said: “It was a tricky and long carry off as there was a risk the injured man could have suffered spinal injuries. We went slow and steady and used specialist equipment to stabilise him.
“We would like to pass on our thanks to the group of teenagers who found him. They were taking part in an expedition for their Silver award. They called 999, then they put up a shelter over the casualty and guided us to their location. They made a real difference on the day.”
