A DRUG trafficker from the West County who came to Newport to buy heroin was caught after police found the drugs in his pants.

Tyler Sinclair, aged 20, was locked up for three years at Cardiff Crown Court.

The defendant, of Southdown Road, Southdown, Bath, travelled to the city to “source” heroin and was arrested on the Southern Distributor Road.

Outside the court, Police Constable Gareth McSherry, the officer in the case, said: “Tyler Sinclair came to the Newport area to source heroin in order to take it back to Bath to sell.

“Officers showed great vigilance and professionalism is dealing with Sinclair at the roadside, with a search leading to the discovery of a large amount of class A drugs concealed in his underwear.

“The subsequent investigation led to this custodial sentence.”

Sinclair pleaded guilty to possessing a controlled drug of class A with intent to supply, possessing cannabis and obstructing or resisting a constable in the execution of their duty.

The offences were committed on January 11.

It was said in mitigation that the defendant had pleaded guilty.
