A SCULPTURE which used to have pride of place outside Newport Railway Station has been photographed languishing next to a car park in the city.

The sculpture, Archform, is made of steel and was originally created by artist Harvey Wood.

It had to be moved from its original location in preparation for work on a footbridge to replace the subway underneath the station.

The work over the railway line has to be completed when no trains are running, and so it is scheduled to be carried out over Christmas this year.

Archform, was commissioned by Network Rail in collaboration with the Welsh Arts Council.

It currently looks a little worse for wear, after having been sat out in the elements since being moved.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: "The sculpture is currently being kept in temporary storage, on Network Rail land, until the work at Newport Station is complete and it can be moved to its new permanent home.
"The plan is to have the sculpture situated near to the main entrance of the station, so the public can once again enjoy it.
"The original artist, Harvey Hood, has been consulted throughout and he has fully approved the plans.

"We actually have a meeting set up, next week with Mr Hood to discuss plans to spruce up the sculpture - so it’s looking at its very best when we place it in its new home."

With regards to Archform being out in the elements, Network Rail said that it has been so since it was first installed decades ago.

"The weather has clearly taken its toll during that time," they said.

"Which is why we will be giving it a refresh with permission and input from Mr Hood."
