CAERLEON residents are exploring the option to purchase a nearby woodland and keep it accessible to the community.

The 4.6 acre land has recently been listed for sale by estate agents DJ&P Rennie.

The property is close to Celtic Manor Golf Course and runs adjacent to Bulmore Road.

Upon seeing the property online, Carla Stewart asked on social media if other residents would like to purchase the land to keep as a community space.

Ms Stewart said: "I just think that it could be such a valuable resource for learning.

"It would be great for schools and for the local people to enjoy, and also preserve a little bit of it.

"I think it would be good for the surrounding houses, that they retain a bit more greenery.

"I mean, nobody wants to live in non-stop houses."

Ms Stewart says that she has had a good response and is in the process of gathering information on if a purchase would be possible.

She said: "We're just checking how viable it is at the moment.

"We're just getting information, it might not be able to happen because it's all down to people's generosity.

"I think if we don't try, then, somebody is going to get it and build a load of houses on it.

"I'm not holding my breathas there are a lot of things that could be obstacles, but if you don't try, you don't get."

There will be a meeting this Sunday at 3pm amongst residents who are interested in helping to purchase the land for the community.

Residents who have experience with fundraising and organising similar purchases to this are encouraged to join.
