A MAN who was caught driving while high on cannabis and someone who broke lockdown restrictions were among the Caerphilly residents to be heard in courts across Wales. 

Here are a look at some of the cases at Magistrates' Courts outside of Gwent involving residents from Caerphilly county borough.

ROBERT STEPHEN THOMAS, 41, of Brooklands Cottages in Cwmcarn was caught driving while high on cannabis.

Thomas was driving a Ford Puma on the A4232 in Cardiff on December 20 last year when stopped by officers.

He had 5.2 micrograms per litre of Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol in his blood – more than two-and-a-half times the legal limit of two micrograms per litre.

He pleaded guilty, and, at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Monday, October 4, was disqualified from driving for a year.

Thomas was also fined £150, and ordered to pay £90 in costs and a £34 surcharge.

LEAH MARIE REES, 26, of Chepstow Close in Cefn Fforest, must pay more than £2,000 after breaking lockdown restrictions.

Rees was caught breaking the lockdown without a reasonable excuse at Woodlands Crescent in Treharris on March 20 – while Wales was under alert level four restrictions.

She was fined £1,760 after the offence was proven using the Single Justice Procedure at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, September 29

She must also pay £90 in costs, and a £176 surcharge to fund victim services.

SARAH NADIA SOUTHARD, 38, of Bedwas Road in Caerphilly, was clocked driving at 80mph on the A48 near Carmarthen.

Southard was caught by a manned speed camera 10mph over the speed limit on the A48 at Pensarn near Carmarthen on October 30, 2019.

She pleaded guilty, and was fined £141 at Llanelli Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, September 29.

She must also pay a £32 surcharge to fund victim services and has had three points added to her licence.

No order was made for costs.

ALEXANDER SIMPSON, 37, of Bryngoleu Street in Cefn Fforest, must pay more than £500 after being clocked at 41mph in a 30mph zone.

Simpson was caught in a Audi by a manned speed camera driving 11mph over the speed limit on Cwmbach Road on January 9.

He pleaded guilty, and was fined £400 at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Friday, October 1.

He must also pay £90 in costs and a £40 surcharge, and has had four points added to his licence.

CALLUM ROGERS, 27, of Elgar Close in Blackwood, has been ordered to pay almost £350 after being caught driving five miles an hour over the speed limit.

Rogers was captured doing 35mph in a 30mph zone on Greenway Road in Cardiff on April 7.

The offence was proven on Thursday September 30 at Cardiff Magistrates' Court using the Single Justice Procedure.

Rogers was fined £220, and ordered to pay £90 in costs and a £34 surcharge, as well as having three points added to his licence.

NATHAN DENNIS CRAWLEY, 37, of Grays Gardens in Graig-Y-Rhacca, has also been ordered to pay almost £350 for doing 35mph in a 30mph zone.

He was caught by the speed camera on Greenway Road, near the junction with Hendre Road, in Rumney on April 1.

The offence was proven using the Single Justice Procedure, and Crawley was fined £220 at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Monday, October 4.

He must also pay £90 in costs and a £34 surcharge, and has had three points added to his licence.

PHILIP MICHAEL DAVIES, 42, of Cardiff Road in Bargoed, has been ordered to pay more than £800 after refusing to identify the driver of an Audi Q5 alleged to have committed an offence.

Davies was questioned on May 10 in Treforest relating to an alleged speeding offence on the eastbound A465 between Hirwaun and Baverstock.

A charge of failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle when required was proved using the Single Justice Procedure, and Davies was fined £660 at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Thursday, September 30.

He was also ordered to pay a surcharge of £66 and £90 in costs, and handed six penalty points.

GAVYN LEWIS POPE, 41, of First Avenue in Trecenydd, was caught speeding in Cardiff.

Pope was caught doing 39mph past the speed camera on the junction on Newport Road for Rover Way – a 30mph area – on April 6.

He pleaded guilty at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Friday, October 1.

Pope was fined £83, and ordered to pay £90 in costs and a £34 surcharge, as well as having three points added to his licence.

CHRISTOPHER DANIEL BUCK, 30, of Pant Yr Resk Road in Abercarn, was caught speeding on the A48 in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Buck was clocked doing 50mph in the 40mph zone on the A48 at Brocastle on February 27.

He pleaded guilty, and was fined £100 at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, September 29.

He must also pay a £34 surcharge, and has had three points added to his licence.

No additional order was made for costs.

CERI WILLIAM LLEWELLYN, 29, of Bryn Road in Markham, has been ordered to pay more than £800 after failing to give information about a vehicle involved in an alleged offence.

On June 11, Llewellyn was questioned in Treforest about the driver of a car caught by a manned speed camera on the A473 Coychurch Bypass, alleged to have been driving at 60mph in a 50mph zone.

A charge of failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle when required was proved using the Single Justice Procedure, and Llewellyn was fined £660 at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Thursday, September 30.

Llewellyn must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £66, and pay £90 in costs, and had six points added to their licence.

DONNA PRICE, 45, of Pen-Y-Mead in Pontllanfraith, has been fined after also failing to identify a driver allegedly involved in an offence.

Price was questioned on June 14 by officers in Treforest, relating to an alleged speeding offence involving a Ford Transit van on Goat Mill Road in Merthyr Tydfil.

A charge of failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle when required was proved using the Single Justice Procedure, and Price was fined £660 at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Friday, October 1.

Price must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £66, and pay £90 in costs, and had six points added to her licence.
