A Newport city centre supermarket has partially reopened after two weeks.

Tesco Express in Cambrian Road has now reopened. However, the store’s bakery remains closed whilst maintenance work is carried out and the chain apologised to customers for the ‘inconvenience.’

The store closed on 11 October ‘for maintenance due to water damage.’

A spokesperson for Tesco said: “Our Newport Express store on Cambrian Road has now re-opened.

“However, the store’s bakery remains closed whilst we continue to carry out maintenance work. We apologise to customers for the inconvenience.”

Last week Tesco told the Argus that it was unknown when the store would open again.

It was the second time in a month that the store was forced to close as it was only last month on 26 September 2023 that the Tesco Express store closed for ‘repairs due to water damage.

In October 2022 the store closed due to remedial works.
