CHEPSTOW'S race meeting on Wednesday has been abandoned because of waterlogging.

The course failed an inspection this morning (Tuesday) after further heavy overnight rain on ground already described as heavy.

Chepstow was hit by 55 millimetres of rain last week – and after a further 25mm, the course was unfit for racing.

More bad weather is forecast for the rest of today.

Storm Francis has arrived in Wales, prompting the Met Office to issue a yellow weather warning for "very strong winds".

Gusts could reach 57 miles per hour in Chepstow this afternoon, with sporadic showers throughout the day and temperatures not expected to be higher than 18C.

The stormy weather is currently forecast to pass South East Wales by mid-morning on Wednesday.
