NEWPORT County AFC manager James Rowberry says he's spoilt for choice up front after completing his strike force by signing Omar Bogle.

The 29-year-old will link up with his new Exiles teammates on Monday after signing from League Two rivals Hartlepool for an undisclosed fee.

County have reshaped their forward line this summer with Lewis Collins the sole survivor from last season.

Golden boot winner Dom Telford has left along with Courtney Baker-Richardson and Alex Fisher plus loanees Rob Street and Timmy Abraham.

They have been replaced by Bogle, Offrande Zanzala (Barrow), Chanka Zimba (Cardiff, loan) and Will Evans (Bala).

"Our front line really excites me," said Rowberry. "Will and Lewis can play in different positions and then we have three strikers with the real potential to help us move forward.

"They all have the ability and we have serious competition for places with them all fighting for starts.

"We needed a strong group of players that means we can bring players off the bench to make an impact but also rotate a bit. We've got that this year and I am delighted with the signings."

Bogle became County's eighth summer signing this week with Rowberry having one more target, an attacking midfielder on loan that is likely to happen closer to the July 30 opener at Sutton.

The latest arrival is well-travelled, having played in the lower leagues until making a big impact at Grimsby to fire the Mariners to League Two in 2016, scoring 32 goals in 68 games for the club.

The following year he moved to Wigan and earned a big-money move to Cardiff.

He produced some flashes for the Bluebirds but had loan spells at Peterborough, Birmingham, Portsmouth and ADO Den Haag in the Netherlands.

His CV grew with Charlton, Doncaster and Hartlepool but the boss, who worked with him at Cardiff City, is confident that he will be a hit in Newport.

"He is experienced, has scored plenty of goals throughout his career and gives us that extra power and pace," said Rowberry.

"Omar is a proven goalscorer with an all-round game and the ability to link up play, while I feel he is ready to settle at a club.

"I know him from Cardiff and so does Carl [Serrant, assistant manager] and Jarred [Harvey, first-team coach] and it's a really good fit."

The rotation of the forward quintet will be helped by the EFL change to allow managers to use five of their seven substitutes in the coming campaign.
