Join BBC National Orchestra of Wales for some of the most celebrated composers of all-time, a folk fusion celebration for St David’s Day and much more!

February begins with Passion of Youth, a concert with a dramatic beginning as Beethoven sets the tone with his feisty overture 'Leonore' No. 3. Walton's first symphony bristles with energy and Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor shares the same dance and drive, with one the most beautiful slow movements in the repertoire.

Conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto is regarded as the leading Mexican conductor of his generation and the orchestra will also be joined by Esther Yoo; a Radio 3 New Generation who became the youngest prize-winner of the 10th International Sibelius Violin Competition at age 16 in 2010. A gorgeous programme for both concert aficionados and newbies alike.

Welsh folk group Calan join BBC NOW to mark St David’s Day with a UK premiere of Cân Cnawd y Pridd – five compositions inspired by collections of traditional Welsh music at the National Library of Wales. Dedicated to the memory of Meredydd Evans - one of the most important song collectors of the 20th Century - is a joint commission between BBC NOW and Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne.

Cardiff Singer of the World Song Prize finalist Angharad Lyddon also joins the Orchestra to sing 3 Welsh songs and BBC National Chorus of Wales perform Brian Hughes’ Noa. A perfect way to celebrate Wales’ national day.
