A BRAVE Newport girl who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in October has had some famous visitors at the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales in recent months.

Libby Fussell, 12, was diagnosed with the brain tumour, which was made up of a combination of two different types of cancer, on October 31, 2014.

She had two operations in November to remove the tumour and began her first week of radiotherapy and chemotherapy last week.

Among the visitors Libby has had at hospital are Baywatch star David Hasselhoff, Wales rugby captain Sam Warburton, and the Cardiff City footballers.

Tottenham fan Libby, who returned home for Christmas, missed Gareth Bale by just half an hour when the Real Madrid star visited the Children’s Hospital on Christmas Eve.

Libby’s mother, Sarah, said: “David Hasselhoff brought in Christmas presents in November and she really enjoyed speaking to him. He was singing songs from Les Misérables to her and she loved that, as she is in the Young Venture Players’ drama group in Newport.

“She also loved Sam Warburton and when he found out that her favourite pop group was One Direction, he asked if he could be her chaperone at their concert in Cardiff.

“She’s very at ease with people and very easygoing.

“She’s going to kick cancer's butt.”

Libby is currently in a wheelchair, having partially lost the use of the left-hand side of her body, and is receiving extensive physiotherapy at the University Hospital for Wales.

On Sunday, Libby had her haircut at Inca Hair Salon at Stow Hill, alongside three friends, Libby Goddard, Tayla Winstone, and Eleanor Kelemen.

Their combined hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust, who make wigs for children who lose their hair through cancer.

Libby’s father, Jason, 44, said: “She’s a remarkable girl and has been writing a daily blog from her iPad.

“Whatever she’s faced and endured, she’s always had that beaming smile. She smiles through it and long may it continue.

“I’ve been absolutely staggered by the support and the donation of the hair by the girls to the Little Princess Trust was an amazing gesture.

“It restores your faith in human nature.”

Any money raised from the haircut will be split between Smile with Libby, a trust in Libby's name, and Latch, a charity that supports children who are receiving treatment for cancer at the Children's Hospital for Wales.
