THERE have been reports of drivers having a 20 minute wait on the Severn Bridge this afternoon due to a Kurdish protest against the Turkish state.

People are reporting on social media that they were stuck in traffic for 20 minutes after around the protestors blocked traffic on the bridge. 

One of the protestors, Vakkas Koskocan said: "The protest was against the Turkish state arresting our MPs in Kurdistan.

"We have been to the Welsh Assembly and the BBC and no one has really answered us so we decided the only thing to do was to close the Severn Bridge.

"There were around 50 of us there and we are residing and living in Newport. Kurds all over the world are protesting Turkish authorities."

Gwent Police said that officers were dealing with an incident on M4 near to the Second Severn Crossing at around 1.48pm. 

A spokeswoman said: "Gwent Police received reports of approximately 20 people who had gathered at the Second Severn Crossing on the M4 near J22.

"Officers are currently on the scene and are dealing with the situation.

"For a short period of time there was disruption to the traffic flow and diversions were in put place.

"The diversions have now been lifted and all traffic is moving freely."
