A POPULAR Cwmbran pub said to have been open for more than 30 years has closed.
The Six in Hand, in Croesyceiliog, had been a regular haunt for residents, with discos and bands often performing at the Edlogan Square pub.
But in a Facebook post, the tenant said that the pub had closed, adding she had handed the keys back after two decades. She also thanked staff members for their support.
Builders were seen boarding up the windows on Saturday.
Pontnewydd resident Rhys Jones, 26, described it as a “sad day”, calling the pub a “great place to go for a pint” because of its “good atmosphere”.
"Saturday nights there were lively,” he added.
Terry Jenkins, of Snowdon Court, Croesyceiliog said he was “shocked” the pub had closed.
“There was rumour of the pub closing but we never actually thought it would because it has always been there,” he said.
“It was a local for lots of us. I am not sure where to go now on a Saturday night.”
Mr Jenkin’ daughter, Sarah, added: “My grandad used to go drinking in there.
“It is a shame that it has closed.”
A business owner in the area, who wished to remain anonymous, added: "It had been here for more than 30 years and it was loved. I just hope it is put to some use, not just left.”
It is not yet known whether the building will re-open as another pub in the future.
