Monday saw a busy start to the week, following a disappointing result at the rugby last Friday. In the morning I attended the Council for Economic Renewal, chaired by the First Minister.

This was followed by a meeting in the afternoon with the Secretary of State for Wales who was chairing the Economic Advisory Board.

This is a fairly new group which meets every two months with a specific industry sector theme.

Then, on Monday evening I attended Cardiff Business Club, where Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson was speaking.

Naturally, at all three meetings we focussed on areas that affect the economy in Wales and the future prosperity of Welsh business, which is at the forefront of what my role entails as IoD Wales Director.

As expected, Tanni Grey-Thompson was fascinating and inspiring and reminded us whether in business or sport, tenacity, dogged determination and the ability to reach for your goals will hopefully pay dividends in the end.

In that sense, while we are disappointed with Friday’s result, we know it’s all part of the bigger picture and there will be better times ahead.

The same themes and optimism apply to the Welsh economy; when we have difficult patches we need to take time to regroup and take strategic steps to ensuring more positive outcomes in the future.
