Cwmbran-based Blurrt, which specialises in finding and analysing comments and sentiments on social media, has been named as the winner of a TechCities award.

The TechCityinsider awards recognised the most innovative and cutting edge tech businesses from around the UK – with some of the UK’s most disruptive companies across the country being shortlisted.

Winners were announced at an event in east London with more than 200 leading figures from the UK technology business scene attending.

Blurrt, responsible for broadcasting the first ever live Twitter reaction to a political debate in the UK, was shortlisted alongside a number of Welsh hopefuls including Bring-it and Ramp Commerce.

Having already worked with clients like Warner Brothers, GoCompare, ITV, and LBC, Blurrt already boasts an impressive client list and is currently working to provide real-time data for an innovative marketing campaign to launch BBC Store.

As part of its ambitious growth plan, Blurrt has launched a £500,000 crowdfunding campaign with Seedrs and has recently welcomed former FreemantleMedia executive Simon Spalding to the board in the role of executive chair.

Jason Smith said: “The Blurrt brand continues to strengthen and develop, and we feel we are really continuing to make our mark on the UK tech scene. Being recognised at the TechCities awards last night was a fantastic achievement and one that we hope will show investors right across the country the huge potential of our technology.

“Through our crowdfunding campaign, we’ll be able to develop new ways of working, continue to grow, and maintain excellent standards of service our clients have come to expect.”

Co-founder of Blurrt Nick Miller said: "Creating a business in the tech space is a difficult journey and awards such as this are really important in terms of spreading the word that Wales has a lot to offer by way of innovation and ideas. We are currently looking for significant investment to grow and this award will help to publicise what we have to offer"
