Nikki Waite, branch manager of Angelwoods Lettings & Sales, in Cwmbran.

1. Who are you?

Nikki Waite. I'm the branch manager of Angelwoods Lettings & Sales in Cwmbran. I have worked here for 6 years

2. How did you get into this line of work?

By accident really. I was looking for part time work after my career as a forensic scientist ended when the industry underwent privatisation. Due to recently having a child I was unable to relocate. I saw an advert for a temporary position as an administrator just up the road from my house and applied. Now I’m here I can’t imagine doing anything else.

3. What sort of properties does your agency usually sell?

We range from properties suitable for the first time buyer right through to top end properties marketed through our Executive & Country range.

4. What’s in your car CD player at the moment?

Artic Monkeys. I absolutely love bands, mostly ones from my uni days like The Killers, Oasis and Coldplay.

5. What motivates you?

Making a difference. I love seeing something transformed, the difference in our office and the way we work now is totally unrecognisable to when I first started. I also love handing keys once a sale has completed knowing we’ve had a part in helping someone on their journey through life.

6. And what irritates you?

Lack of ambition and motivation. I really believe that if you want to make a change then you have to be prepared to give it 100 per cent and everything you have. There’s nothing worse than someone who expects something without putting in any effort.

7.What do you think the property scene in the area is like at the moment and how would you change it if you could?

The property market is very vibrant at the moment and we are taking on lots of new instructions and there are much more first time buyers entering the market which is enabling the top end of the market to also move forward

8. Last film you saw and what did you think?

Lion, which was about a five-year-old boy who got lost in India. It was amazing. Although I cried for about an hour afterwards, I just couldn’t imagine how scared and how traumatic it would be at five years old to have to totally fend for yourself.

9. If you weren’t doing this, what would you be doing?

I think that I will probably spend the rest of my working life in estate agency now, although If I was to ever change I would love to work with teenagers who need to find direction and focus

10. Who is your hero?

If we were talking about someone in a professional capacity I would probably say Richard Branson. He is an inspiration for anyone showing that if you work hard and have ambition anything is possible. Personally my mum is one of the most inspiring people I know who no matter what life has thrown at her she always moves forward and makes the best out of any situation.

11. What one tip would you give someone trying to sell their property?

Presentation is key, the most important thing is getting viewers in through the door so the property needs to be clean and tidy so marketing photographs show the property at its best. Viewers need to be able to imagine themselves living in the property.

12. And what one tip would you give someone looking to buy in the area?

Think about what it is that you want from your property, if you have children research local schools and catchment areas and speak to people who live locally to make sure you get a feel for the area.

13. If you could sell any prop in the world to anyone, what prop would it be and who would it be to?

I would love to sell something really of the wall like the Disney Castle to someone you would least expect to live there like a rock star like Liam Gallagher or Brandon Flowers.

14. Three words which sum up why buying in this area is a great idea…

Schools, local road and motorway links, amenities.
