There is nothing more delightful than to hear a child laughing, so Comedy Club 4 Kids pushed all the right buttons when the show made its first ever South Wales appearance as part of Comedy Port 2011 on Saturday afternoon.

Host Tiernan Douleb (named so because his parents “are hilarious”) promised the audience “There will be no rude words and no Justin Bieber!” before launching into 20 minutes of quick fire humour on subjects as diverse as mispronouncing names, weird beards and the hazards of the butterfly crawl in swimming.

Tiernan was followed by the hilarious Tom Webb who demonstrated how the art of abbreviating names doesn’t always sound as cool as Jennifer Lopez’ J-Lo. Tom’s own name for instance, making him P-Wee. Tom then demonstrated a comedic visual master class of how to acquire the perfect passport photo with many suggestions from the children.

Finally, Jim Smallman who had been admiring many of the face paintings sported by the children who attended the show sought advice from the children on what to get for a new tattoo. Jim received suggestions as diverse as a duck being sick to a monkey eating a fried egg before chairing a balloon helicopter race much to the children’s delight.

It is often difficult to hold children’s attention on one subject for more than several minutes, but the fact that these three talented comedians achieved it together for over an hour proved that there is still room in the world for good clean fun.
