Wizz Air is expanding its route network from Bristol Airport and will start a new scheduled service to Sofia, Bulgaria, from March 28, 2016.

The flights will operate twice a week on a Monday and Friday.

This new direct scheduled service will bring the total number of capital cities served by Bristol Airport to 17.

Sofia is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Bulgaria and one of the oldest in Europe.

It lies at the foot of popular ski mountain, Vitosha, an ideal location for a winter skiing holiday. With its rich cultural history and cobblestone boulevards it offers a great summer vacation option and is an all year-round destination.

Tamara Mshvenieradze, corporate communications manager at Wizz Air, said: “This is our second route from Bristol and with fares starting from £24.49 we hope to carry many passengers on our new Sofia route.”

Peter Downes, head of aviation development at Bristol Airport, said: “We are delighted that Wizz Air has added this new scheduled route to our network from Bristol, further enhancing the range of destinations available to people living in the South West and Wales from their local airport. With a unique blend of east-meets-west culture, ancient and modern architecture, as well as renowned winter sports facilities, Sofia has something for everyone and is sure to be popular with passengers.”
