Having spent many hours creating Lego models growing up and seeing my three children repeat the experience it was only a matter of time before a visit to Legoland resort came up in our conversations for things to do when summer raised its head.

Easy to locate with approximately a steady twohour car journey from Newport, we headed southward to Windsor on the first sunny weekend in June for a family fun-filled day of inspiration creativity and smiles.

We were keen to get on the Legoland experience as soon as possible.

Heading over to the Land of the Vikings themes area we began with fun-filled journey on the Viking River Splash.

A bumpy ride in itself it was an ideal taster of things to come and also a refreshingly wet ride for a hot day (cagoules and driers are on hand for purchase if you are so inclined).

As rides were still a new experience for our two youngest children (aged six and eight), we found many of the rides were an ideal introduction for erasing any apprehension and bringing a smile to their faces. These included the Pirate Falls dynamic drench, itself a steep climb with a huge drop and the roller coaster Dragons Apprentice.

As the queues for rides began to build up, we then headed over to Atlantis for a family underwater adventure beneath the sea in a yellow submarine. This section was great fun being both educational with a variety of sealife to view and interactive giving the children the sense they were operating the submarine.

There was further fun to be had by experiencing interactive games and posing for pictures with life size Lego models in Lego City before been entertained by an amazing acrobatic pirate show.

The resort’s latest attraction Duplo Valley was next up with a play area which gave the younger children chance to cool down and have lots of watery fun in the Splash Safari or, in the case of my 10-year-old daughter, head over to Drench Towers for a variety of wet activities.

In close proximity is the newly-restored Fairytale Brook, a relaxed boat journey designed to take children and adults on a fun retread of classic Fairy Tale characters including Snow White, The Three Little Pigs and Hansel and Gretel.

We rounded off the day with two inspiring looks around the Mini-World and Star Wars exhibitions.

Mini World itself is a vast open air around the world world journey of landmarks recreated in Lego.

While the Star Wars exhibition is a fabulous recreation of many classic scenes and characters from the film series.

A day in Legoland was jam-packed to the hilt with fun although it was virtually impossible to visit everything, and I would recommend you plan out your visit before going as to what rides you want to do.

In our case, we found the staff more than helpful with suggestions on how to get the best from our day and were even given money saving tips enabling us to capture special memories at a bargain price with Legoland mementoes.

Legoland was undoubtedly great fun and a resort we will certainly want to visit again.
