What to pack and what not to pack for a summer holiday is one of the biggest bones of contention between the sexes during the holiday season, according to the over-50s travel review and advice site Silver Travel Advisor.

Silver Traveller’s founder and managing director Debbie Marshall said: “We asked our members to tell us their partner’s most annoying packing habits. Inappropriate clothing came out as the most annoying male faux-pas and packing excessive beauty products was the most annoying female trait.”

And these traits aren't really age related - everyone going on holiday should take note.

Ten things that women would rather men didn’t pack:

• T-shirts with humourous slogans on them.

• Leather sandals with socks.

• Anything made from corduroy.

• A `family sized’ aerosol of shaving foam (once out of the can, it never goes back).

• Speedos.

• A Beanie hat.

• A compass or other navigation system.

• Shoulder carried video cameras and excessively large photographic equipment.

• Gadgets. Leave your inner geek at home.

• Buoyancy aids. If you can’t swim, don’t swim.

Ten things that men would rather women didn’t pack:

• More than three pairs of shoes.

• `Essentials’ such as a universal sink stopper, inflatable coat hanger or lobster pick.

• A kettle. Not every hotel room has one, but if you’re that far from boiling water then there won’t be a socket to plug it into either.

• Photographs of the family. No-one wants to see them.

• Clothes. Without them life is more interesting and there is no risk of excess baggage.

• A suitcase. Most men would rather the contents arrived magically in the hotel room.

• More than one moisturiser, cleanser or anti-wrinkle cream.

• Medication for every eventuality

• Tea bags, Marmite or Nescafe.

• Large or embarrassing headwear.
