Ed Sheeran has admitted he can’t always keep track of the words to his own songs – but it’s not a problem as his fans can help him out.

The Thinking Out Loud singer was co-hosting the BBC Radio One Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw when he revealed that he couldn’t always call to mind the lyrics of his own songs.

Asked if anything ever went wrong on stage, singer and guitarist Ed said: “I play on my own and I have to work a pedal with my feet, so sometimes I hit the wrong button, or the pedal messes up, or I break a string.

“Sometimes I just forget the words. I remember I was like, ‘Oh, I’m going to sing an old song today,’ but when I started playing it I realised, ‘I can’t remember the words to this song’.

So what I did was pretend and say, ‘You sing this part’. Then the crowd would sing it and I’d remember and carry on, but then I’d forget again and say, ‘You sing’.”

Ed was also joined by his friend Taylor Swift on the show, who will be performing at Radio One’s Big Weekend with him this year.

Talking about the venue, he said to Taylor: “It’s near the pub we went to, where we stole the glasses for the walk home before we did our Christmas present opening ceremony.”
