WHAT a swell party this is - swelegant and elegant and the cast all have a ball, and so do the audience!.

This will go down in the illustrious history of the Abergavenny Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (AAODS) as another outstanding hit. It was lovely to see Barbara Bennett as leading lady again, playing pretentious Tracy Samantha Lord, a socialite getting ready to marry again. She was complemented by Patrick Callaghan as her first husband Dexter who played his best role yet with AAODS and their duet True Love was one of the highlights.

Jilted bridegroom George Kitteridge was humorously portrayed by Rob Jenkins and veteran Barrie Jackson added more hilarity as Uncle Willy, delighting with his song Say It With Gin.

But undoubtedly a new star was born with Emily James playing Tracy's little sister Dinah. She stole the show with her cheeky commentary on what was happening around her. Jane Lewis played her mother Margaret, she is such a professional in whatever role she takes and she was well matched by the redoubtable David Evans as her wayward husband Seth.

There were excellent performances too from newcomer Stephen Hopkins as journalist Mike Connor and Evelin Sipos (both OK) as photographer Liz Imbrie. The strength of AAODS has always been their chorus and this show was no exception, from their grand entrance onto the stage through the auditorium at the start to the finale, their dancing and singing were faultless.

A must-see show, tickets are still available for the rest of the week
