TREDEGAR House and Country Park plays host to fine folk music this weekend, with the 24th Tredegar House Folk Festival. Headlined by Welsh folk band Jamie Smith’s Mabon, it offers a weekend of international dance, music and song.

The line-up features Welsh talent plus artists and folk dance groups from around the globe. French songstress Flossie Malavialle, North East Folk legend and West End theatre star Bob Fox, Estonian- Welsh collaboration Sild and Cardiff folk acoustic duo BarlowCree will all perform.

This year, the festival also welcomes acclaimed 21-year-old acoustic artist Lucy Ward and Teeside’s The Young ’Uns.

The festival starts today. Weekend tickets are £30. Individual concert tickets can be purchased for each performance. Go to tredegarhousefestival.org.uk/Tickets.html for more information.

A number of dance teams will perform free demonstrations. Teams representing dance traditions including Welsh dance, Appalachian bluegrass, clog dancing and Morris dancing plus visiting teams from Latvia and Finland will perform over the weekend. There will also be two separate Ceilidhs: led on Friday night by Dai Bach Band and on Saturday night by Juice.

Making a welcome return are celebrated purveyors of real ale The Wheatsheaf pub at Llantrisant, who will provide a selection of traditional Celtic ales from their very own brewery. Real Ale fans will be in for a treat when they sample landlord TomBarlow’s finest - Black Army Stout, Prince Of Bengal IPA, Deliverance APA and Golden Pixie.

Festival chairwoman Sue Oates said: “The festival has been going from strength to strength and we’re proud to be hosting another great line-up.”
