As they release their new EP Last Ethical Hooligan, Bristol based band MARMALADE SKY chat to ANDY HOWELLS

Who are you all and how did Marmalade Sky come together?

Originally started four years ago by schoolmates Mike, Luke and Jamie, who were going out playing cover songs of ‘60s acts (The Who, The Byrds, etc), at that time Mike played bass, Jamie on drums and Luke guitarist and lead singer.

We played in a few venues for six months or so, then Luke met Dan through work and began chatting about the band and whether he would like to come in as the lead singer, allowing Luke to concentrate more on the lead guitar and writing. So the band became a fourpiece and writing their own tunes gigging regularly up and down the country.

After about a year of this we then felt our sound needed beefing up so that’s when we brought in George on rhythm guitar who had been going to our gigs as a fan. We got chatting to him and seemed like the right kid to join the band.

How would you describe your style of music?

Bringing everything good about rock music into one package, full of energy and excitement.

What’s been your best gig?

Our first big gig when we played to over 200 people, because the week before we were playing to 50 people, then all of a sudden we were playing and headlining a gig with over four times as many people. We couldn’t even walk through the crowd to get to the stage

Can you tell us about your new release?

Our new EP release Last Ethical Hooligan brings together everything we have learned and developed over the past few years, and it’s an EP not just for us to show our writing ability but the tracks are for the fans who provide us with the energy and buzz to write these massive tunes Will you be visiting Wales again anytime soon?

Yes we will. we have a few gigs lined up in the autumn, one of which is supporting welsh band Broken Vinyl Club
