Sinfonia Cymru return as regular favourites to the Riverfront, for the finale of its third national tour of Wales this year.

This concert carries on a year long thread celebrating the most cherished of Haydn’s works, opening with the expressively powerful Haydn Symphony no.99.

Next in the programme comes a new Harp Concerto by Geraint Lewis, specially composed for Catrin Finch and Sinfonia Cymru, which attempts to recreate in sound, something of the mythical magic world of the medieval Mabinogion stories. It becomes a journey from light to dark and back again, incorporating warm Welsh melodies and invigorating rhythms with the solo harpist as talismanic guide and shape-shifter.

This concert offers an impressive ‘tour de force’ experience of classical music composition, as the newly commissioned Harp Concerto is followed by Beethoven’s wonderfully triumphant Eroica.

Sinfonia Cymru Tour De Force will take place this Sunday, at 7.30pm at The Riverfront, Newport.

Prices are £10, £7 FoS: £9, £6; full-time education: £3
