If your experience of recorders harks back to school days, and out-of-tune classmates, be prepared to have your thoughts changed forever. The Phoenix Recorder Orchestra is made up of 35 people who play every size of recorder – right up to the monstrous nine-foot subcontrabass, which make a gorgeous and mellow sound. You will hear beautiful music from 16th century masters, via Grieg, through to jazz. Hear the orchestra at The Blake Theatre, Monmouth on Saturday, 14th July at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 and available from 01600 719401 or theblaketheatre.org
