Tell Tales The Cornshed Sisters Memphis Industries NEWCASTLE’S Cornshed Sisters have produced a wondrous album of harmonious melodies that recall the simplistic refrains predominant in the folk scene more than half a century ago.
The Cornsheds – Cath, Jamie, Liz and Marie – aren’t blood related but they are certainly joined by the vocal chords when belting out heart-felt and occasionally gritty Northern vocals.
The songs featured on Tell Tales are all steeped with pure north-eastern inspiration recalling everything from lost loves and souls to slightly sinister nursery rhymes.
Supplemented with piano, bodhran, washboard and the occasional a cappella track, Tell Tales is an essential listen that deserves repeated plays.
