A SERIES of awards were presented for environmental work in Blaenau Gwent.

Blaenau Gwent council held its annual environmental awards at Abertillery Sports Centre on October 23.

Now in its seventh year, Blaenau Gwent was the first council to introduce the environmental awards and this year had more than 150 entries.

Each award was made from reclaimed wood and made by local craftsman John James.

Winners included Wiggly Giggly’s Day Nursery for the pre-school reduce, reuse and recycle category, Bryn Gwyn Primary School for biodiversity and Beaufort Hill Primary School for health and wellbeing.

A special award was presented to Festival Park Owl Sanctuary.

The council’s executive member for environment and community safety, Councillor Keith Hayden, said: “I want to congratulate all the winners for their remarkable achievements and for the commitment and enthusiasm shown during the past year in improving the environment. We are striving towards green and sustainable communities here in Blaenau Gwent.”
