A celebration of the seaside was the order of the day at The Riverfront Studio on a blustery autumnal afternoon last Friday afternoon.

Actor, musician, puppeteer and long-standing member of Cornwall’s international knee-high theatre, Craig Johnson kept a packed out audience enthralled in The Sea Show which featured a mixture of maritime tales, songs and fascinating facts for close to an hour.

It was clear from the outset that Craig’s easy going nature held the parents and children’s attention. A mixture of characters including the mischievous Sammy The Sea Squirt (who squirted water into the audience at every opportunity) and Ruin The Seagull (think a recycle conscious version of Rod Hull’s legendary Emu – but still with the slapstick) brought laughter ringing around the studio and even caused my youngest son to dive for cover!

Amongst all the fun there were also moments of wonder, Craig’s magical television screen, which was reminiscent of a vintage Punch and Judy show tent that featured an array of underwater creatures and fascinating facts about the underwater world.

The show was also a good reminder of how we should all behave responsively to protect our beaches. If you get an opportunity to catch this wonderful show with your children I’d wholeheartedly recommend it, because by the time you reach the end of it you’ll have had so much fun you’ll wonder where the time has gone!

Lets hope the Sea Show drops anchor on our shores again really soon!
