BRACES Bread has once again donated hundreds of Welsh cakes to this year’s Jesus Cares hamper appeal, which will go straight to those in need.

Last year the Crumlin-based bread company, which employs people from across Gwent, was only too happy to help out. In 2012 it has stepped up to the mark once again by donating 600 packs of the traditional Welsh food free of charge.

A spokeswoman for the company said it was “absolutely pleased to help out again” this year.

The call from the company came just minutes after organisers at Jesus Cares contacted the Argus to say it needed more food, having packed 1,500 hampers ready to be delivered to families in need across South Wales this week.

Businesses such as St Bride’s Medical Centre, Newport Transport, Celtic Manor and Tata Steel have also made donations and pledged their support.

Blaenau Gwent was visited by the Jesus Cares delivery drivers yesterday, but the charity needs more of your donations to pack more than 2,500 hampers this year.

The Jesus Cares initiative needs non-perishable food for its hampers which will last over the Christmas period, as well as special treats and small gifts, which mean even more at Christmas time.
