Guide dogs looking for temporary home in Cwmbran
8:20am Monday 14th January 2013 in News
GUIDE Dogs Cymru is on the lookout for residents in Cwmbran to provide a temporary home for its trainees.
Boarders must be in the Llanyrafon area and willing to have the animal in their home at evenings and at weekends.
The dogs in training go to work from 9am-5pm.
Steve Kersley, Volunteer Co-ordinator at Guide Dogs Cymru, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to have the benefits of caring for a dog without the full-time responsibility. It's also very rewarding to be involved in the upbringing and training of a guide dog, which will one day provide freedom and independence to a blind or partially-sighted person."
Homes need to have a secure garden and advice will be given to boarders about handling, basic first aid and general care.
There are currently around 4,800 working guide dogs in the UK.
For information about volunteering, ring Guide Dogs Cymru on 0845 372 7405.
