A TREDEGAR woman is urging people in Gwent to donate 20p each time they pull the chain to fund new toilets at a school in Uganda.
Natasha Powles, 31, a Blaenau Gwent Council worker, has started a scheme to raise money for toilets at a village school in Buweri, Uganda, which were destroyed two years ago.
Every time someone taking part flushes their toilet, they donate 20p to go towards the fund.
“A few years ago, the village experienced some very heavy rains which caused a lot of damage when mudslides hit,”
she said.
“The mudslides destroyed the pit latrines the school once had.We want to raise enough money to build at least one block of four pit latrines at a cost of about £1000.”
“So for the whole month of February we want people to donate a minimum of 20p every time they flush.
“Some churches have said they will take on the challenge for Lent, others are doing it just in February. It all helps.”
