YOU are never too old to learn a new skill or develop your knowledge.
At a recent St John Cymru Wales event in the National Assembly, I learned a range of first-aid skills including how to stop a nosebleed, save a baby from choking and how to put someone in the recovery position.
I have also witnessed first hand the positives that the Malpas Court Communities First programme is providing across my constituency as a result of Welsh Government funding.
Malpas Court offers a great range of courses and training, from grounds maintenance training to jobs club.
For more information on what’s on at Malpas Court visit their website at www.malpascourtcommunitiesfirst.com.
The Welsh Government is committed to assisting deprived communities, and has recently awarded £416,000 to Newport Communities First areas.
U3A Newport also offers a wide variety of exciting classes for people of all ages.
I recently took part in two French classes and saw the range of fantastic items that the craft group makes to donate to local charities.

A variety of programmes and courses are available in Newport West through the Newport Community Learning Programme.
Computing classes, creative sessions and opportunities to learn Welsh are just some of the courses on offer.
To find out more about courses for young people, preparation for work and life skills visit the Newport City Council website or call 01633 656656.
I continue to hold regular street surgeries across the constituency.
