A VALLEYS man thought police were investigating an alleged assault against him, but was shocked when they arrested him instead for breaching an ASBO, a court heard.
John Glyn Jones, 37, of Maindee Road, Cwmfelinfach, was given an anti-social behaviour order in August 2012, preventing him from drinking alcohol or being drunk in a public place.
Caerphilly Magistrates’ Court heard that officers were called to Woodbine Road, Blackwood, to investigate an alleged assault on March 13.
Prosecutor Mark Salter said: “Officers arrived to find Jones unsteady on his feet, slurring his words, with significant bleeding from his nose. He began ranting about the police and was arrested.”
Defence solicitor Llyr Williams said: “He was ranting as he believed police were going to help him following the assault, not arrest him.
“He thought they were there to investigate the incident, but seemed to be more interested in his ASBO.”
Mr Williams said Jones had been drinking in the Blackwood Workingmen’s Club, in Woodbine Road, not in public, which he was entitled to do. He added that no statement has been taken regarding the complaint he made about an alleged assault.
Jones, who has 39 convictions for 65 previous offences, pleaded guilty to the breach and was fined £50, and ordered to pay £50 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
