LITTER is being cleared from lay-bys between Abergavenny and Newport.
Work has begun to clear litter that has been dumped along the A449 and A40 towards the Coldra junction following complaints from residents.
Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay said the work had been delayed this year because of the severe winter, but that improvements were being made.
He said: "Hopefully our main roads will look a lot better before the tourist season is in full swing."
"I have also raised the possibility of litter bins being provided in lay-bys, but it seems that following trials this does not seem to reduce the amount of litter deposited in lay-bys and may pose potential security problems on the strategic road network.
Mr Ramsay urged people using the road to dispose of any litter responsibly.
