A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy plans to walk across the Newport Transporter Bridge in aid of a charity being supported by his parents, who have lost three babies.

Cai Jones, from Underwood, came up with the idea to raise funds for the Mariposa Trust because mum Jody, 35, and dad Dylan, 33, explained to him that he would no longer be having a new brother or sister.

The charity organises ‘saying goodbye’ remembrance services in cathedrals across the UK for people who have lost babies.

“We started supporting the charity in the last couple of months and we decided to have a talk with Cai a few weeks ago,” said Mr Jones, an IT engineer.

“He was upset he wouldn’t have a new sibling, although he loves his four-year-old brother Toby, but he said he wanted to do something to help and picked the Transporter Bridge.”

Mrs Jones has lost four babies during pregnancy, with two lost within eight months. It resulted in surgery, which means the couple can no longer have children.

The family have not picked a date when Cai, supported by his mother, will walk across the bridge’s beam 177 feet above the road, but it will be in the next two or three weeks. Mr Jones is also organising an acoustic music night in Caerleon in June, while Mrs Jones has become a fundraising co-ordinator for the charity.
