GWENT saw the biggest reduction in crime in the whole of England and Wales last year.
New figures from the Office of National Statistics out today show overall crime was down by 17 per cent in the force area, compared with eight per cent overall in England and Wales.
The total number of crimes in Gwent during 2012 was 34,436 compared to 41,489 the previous year.
The biggest decreases were for offences against vehicles, burglary of buildings other than homes and sexual offences.
