A MAN who was cleaning out his dead father's house found the hand grenade in his father's attic.

Tim Williams, 44, of Bettws, said he was sorting through his father Roger's belongings, who had died in January this year, with his wife when he discovered the grenade.

"We are cleaning out the house now and we discovered the hand grenade in a box," he said.

"I opened the box and realised what it was and then I called the police. I wasn't scared."

Mr Williams said his father had been in the army for many years but suspected the grenade could have been in the house long before his father moved there.

"It was right underneath the eaves in the attic, right in the roof, so it could have been there for god knows how long.

"It was just in an old cardboard box which was falling apart."
