FIRE crews tackled a grass fire almost five acres in size on a mountainside near Risca last night.
The fire service said it had received a large number of calls to a mountain fire in the Risca area, receiving its first at around 4.52pm.
Around two hectares of grass – equivalent to 4.94 acres – burned on the side of Machen Mountain near Ochrwyth Quarry.
Three fire crews from Duffryn, Risca and Abercarn stations attended.
It is not known whether the fire was set deliberately.
