FROM Saturday Torfaen council will be collecting your opinions on the use of lamppost banners in the borough.

The questionnaire asks if Torfaen council neighbourhood services department should consider using lamppost banners to raise income, as the department is asked to do more for less.

Lamppost banners have been used in Commercial Street, Pontypool, to draw attention to the many facets of the market town.

Banners could also be used to advertise future events or services available.

Lamppost banners are not suitable for use near housing, but the council wants to know where they would be acceptable.

They could carry direct advertising, which would maximise the council’s opportunity to generate income.

Sponsorship would be more discrete, taking 10 per cent of the banner for the sponsor.

The council wants to know what you would find acceptable for them to say.

Lastly, it is asking you to consider different types of advertising on lamppost banners and asking you about the policy it should adopt when accepting advertising clients, eg should they only be local businesses.

The questionnaire will be available on mysay.torfaen.gov.uk from June 1 until July 31.
