A VALLEYS man who sent threatening messages to his former partner on Facebook has been given a community order.

Gavin William Lloyd, 32, of Llanerch Road, Pentwyn, Crumlin admitted sending the messages to his former partner after she told him that she had met someone else, Cwmbran Magistrates Court heard yesterday.

Mark Salter, prosecuting, said the message, sent in January, threatened her and her new partner with assault with a metal bar and Lloyd also made threats to kill.

District judge David Parsons said he had been heavily influenced by a letter from Lloyd’s ex-partner which gave context to the situation and said she does not want a restraining order.

Judge Parsons described the defendant as “emotionally disturbed” at the time and sentenced him to a 12- month supervision order with 16 sessions of a ‘respect for relationships’ programme.

He must pay £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
