NEWPORT pupils got hands on experience in construction with practical lessons as part of Science Week.

Year three and four pupils from Malpas Court Primary School took part in the school’s 12th annual Science Week with lessons on sustainable and diverse, eco-friendly construction from leading construction firm, Willmott Dixon.

Pupils spent five afternoons with Willmott Dixon Community Engagement Manager Emma Bull, learning about different aspects of the building process from design through to construction.

The pupils were encouraged to take inspiration from nature, designing their own structures based on animal shelters.

Gill Benson, Deputy Head at Malpas Court Primary School, said: “The children had a wonderful time, getting some real life experience from looking at buildings and considering the ways in which they have been built and the sustainable use of materials.

Managing director of Willmott Dixon in Wales Neal Stephens said: “These annual workshops are a great opportunity to teach local children what we do and hopefully inspire them to consider a future career in construction.”
