A CAERPHILLY school has a new garden to help give pupils a better learning experience.

Markham Primary School, Blackwood, has created the outdoor learning environment to give pupils the chance to interact outdoors all year.

The project started in February 2012 when nursery teacher Rhiannon Price came up with the idea.

The funding for garden was provided by Caerphilly council and designed by Naturescape.

Parent and Naturescape worker, Dave Anderson, was able to design and develop the garden along with the children and members of the school.

The work on the garden was completed at the end of May, with an official opening by Islwyn AM Gwyn Price on June 7.

The garden features a trike track, an outdoor class room, adventure play equipment, imaginative and creative play zones.

Play groups and other community groups will also use the garden.

Headteacher Neil Hancox, said: “Having seen the smiles on the children’s faces whilst exploring, playing and learning in our outdoor areas, I feel extremely pleased and proud of what has been achieved.”
