PUPILS at High Cross Primary School held a fundraising event to buy new gymnastic equipment.

The 23 children are all members of the school’s lunchtime gymnastics club and need to raise £1,600.

Last week, they held a bake sale at the school, following cake donations from the Coop, Tesco and Sainsbury, Avana Bakery, and local resident Lynne Strong, which the group sold to other pupils. Yesterday, the pupils showed off their skills by holding a tumble day.

Gymnastic coach Wendy Whitehead said: “Congratulations to High Cross Primary School gymnasts who took part in the sponsored tumble.

A fantastic fun-filled day was had by all the children, who performed gymnastics routines, trampette, vault and tumbles throughout the whole school day.”

The group has collected more than £700 for its efforts, which will be put towards the new equipment.

First prize for raising the most money went to Elle and Maddison Hobbs, who raised £123.50 each, and received leotards. The second prize winner was Lauren Giles, who raised £68, and received a bag.

The school said it would like to thank all the sponsors who helped the pupils to raise the funds and provided the prizes.

The club still needs to raise £1,000 to enable it to purchase a tumble track.

Teaching assistant Lydia Davies said: “We have all enjoyed our amazing tumble day and look forward to raising more money in the future.”
