A FORMER security guard who moved to Gwent to live near his family 15 years ago celebrated his 104th birthday yesterday.

Great-grandfather Ernest Frost, of Sedbury Park Care Centre Home in Chepstow moved to the area following the death of his wife Eleanor.

Mr Frost, who was born in 1909, has lived through two world wars, the first moon landings, and the invention of the internet. When he was born, Herbert Henry Asquith was Liberal prime minister of the country and King Edward VII was still on the throne.

Daughter Margaret Cowley, 56, said: “I think he’s had a really nice day. When you reach that age, it’s quite a feat.

“His passion was gardening, he was always a keen gardener, but he worked on the railways for many years.”

Staff at the home organised presents and cake for Mr Frost, who was surrounded by family on his extra special day.
