A TYRE company boss accused of breaking the arm and legs of a thief who entered his yard to steal diesel faces a crown court trial.

Andrew Woodhouse, 43, allegedly attacked Kevin Green as the intruder left his yard near Samuel Salter Close, Abergavenny, on March 26, a court heard yesterday.

Woodhouse, of Kiln Lodge, Blaenavon Road, Govilon, is charged with one count of maliciously causing grievous bodily harm to 52-year-old Mr Green.

Woodhouse appeared on bail before Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

He did not enter any pleas during the short hearing.

Chairman of the bench, Paul Phillips JP, told the court he was “sending the case for trial” to Newport Crown Court.

Woodhouse was bailed on condition he does not go to Charles Edward Close in Abergavenny.

The case was adjourned to next Thursday at Newport Crown Court.

● Two fuel thieves who stole £50 of diesel from a yard have been fined.

Timothy Cross, 31, and Kevin Green, 52, took the two jerry cans of diesel from the yard in Samuel Salter Close, Abergavenny, on March 26, a court heard.

They both pleaded guilty to stealing £50 of fuel belonging to Andrew Woodhouse at Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

In addition, Cross admitted having 0.3 grams of cannabis on his person the same day.

Cross, of Clos Ysty, Caldicot, was fined £75 for the theft, £75 for cannabis possession and ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and a £20 surcharge.

Green, of Charles Edward Close, Abergavenny, was also fined £75 for the fuel theft and ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and a £20 surcharge.
