THE acting chief executive of Caerphilly council Nigel Barnett was today suspended.
Mr Barnett was arrested with former chief executive Anthony O’Sullivan earlier this week. They were both released on police bail yesterday.
Cllr Harry Andrews, Leader of Caerphilly county borough council said that Mr Barnett had been suspended from his duties “pending the outcome of the investigations”.
He added: "In light of recent developments, the Acting Chief Executive has recognised the difficulty that this creates in terms of him fulfilling his responsibilities as Head of Paid Service, and that his continued attendance at work would not be appropriate at this time.
Cllr Andrews added a special meeting of the full council will take place on Thursday 11th July for members to “consider a way forward”.
